General Manager


Job Summary
The General Manager’s key responsibility is the overall operational efficiency and profitability of a designated Rick’s Barbecue restaurant. You will plan, direct, and coordinate all of the daily operations of the restaurant, including customer service, product preparation and delivery, time management, team building and management including hiring and training, inventory management, financial accountability, and delivering superior products and services to each customer. You will be ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance of all team members with all company policies and procedures. The General Manager will lead, manage, and motivate a team of Assistant Managers, Shift Leaders, and other employees for the achievement of the stores’ targets for all lines of business by planning, organizing, and coordinating with the company Operations Manager and HR Director for the efficient and profitable services of Rick’s Barbecue.


Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of team members, focusing on the retention and continued success of these individuals. Direct hiring, supervision, development, discipline, and when necessary, termination of employees
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date plan of restaurant staffing needs. Prepare schedules and ensure that the restaurant is staffed for all shifts
• Oversee the training of new employees and confirm the complete training of employees to operate as fully effective team members. Develop employees by providing ongoing feedback, establishing performance expectations and by conducting performance reviews
• Responsible for coordinating the activities and developing the professional abilities of employees who have a desire to promote their careers within the company
• Serve as an effective leader to ensure that your store achieves its sales, cost, staffing, and service goals
• Ensure that all business processes are enforced in regard to financial controls, operations standards, policies and procedures, and ensuring a positive dining experience for our customers
• Adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, supply, utility, and labor costs
• Understand the details of the operation, including all operating standards, food standards, and service standards. Quickly recognize when a standard is not being met and teach team members how to improve
• Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas. Ensure compliance with operational standards, company policies, federal/state/local laws, and ordinances
• Maintain a professional restaurant image, including restaurant cleanliness, proper uniforms, and appearance standards
• Recognize, address, and resolve all safety and/or housekeeping issues. Maintain a direct line of communication with the Maintenance Manager and Corporate Office to address issues with high urgency
• Ensure that proper safety and security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests, and company assets. Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Complete accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured
• Responsible for ensuring that all financial and payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policy and procedure
• Uphold the accountability of all employees’ actions by properly addressing disciplinary issues and following through with the corrective action and discipline process
• Promote positive customer service in all areas and ensure that all team members are displaying exemplary customer service to all guests. Respond to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return customers
• Promote the sale of wholesale products and capability of catering from your location
• Be consistently active as a company representative in community engagement, including efforts to market the Rick’s brand, it’s products, and services offered by the brand at your location to the community at large and specifically business to business
• Maintain regular and required attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Maintain and demonstrate a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills. • Provide constant leadership, counselling, advice and feedback to your team members
• Consistently adhere to all housekeeping, safety, and maintenance company policies and procedures. Train all employees to be aware of and adhere to same policies and procedures
• Educate and train staff on the proper function, operation, and maintenance of all equipment in the store
• Provide a strong presence in the local community and a high level of community involvement by the restaurant and employees
• Develop and maintain a strong relationship with customers. Go above and beyond to ensure that each customer is approached and their needs are individually addressed and properly met
• Always ensure that each customer leaves satisfied and has experienced the absolute best dining experience possible


Work Environment:
• General Managers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours per week. You are required to work at least two nights a week and one of those nights must be a Friday or Saturday night. The work schedule may vary if the General Manager must fill in for his/her employees or if emergencies arise. Hours worked include evenings, weekends, and some holidays
• Ability to perform all functions at the restaurant level, including delivery and catering when needed
• Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion
• This position works with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operates phones, computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office equipment


Supervisory Responsibility:
• This position manages all employees of the restaurant and is responsible for hiring, leadership, performance management, and termination of the employees within its location

Job Qualifications:
• High School Diploma required; College degree preferred
• Minimum of 2 years managerial experience required, with food service or retail management preferred
• Basic business math and accounting skills required and must be competent in operating a personal computer and be familiar with basic software programs. Microsoft Office skills a plus. Apple based product knowledge is a plus
• Ability to multi-task and display excellent time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required with a strong ability to make difficult decisions and resolve conflict
• Ability to relate to different personalities and adjust management style as needed
• Dedication to providing exceptional customer service
• Clean driving record required
• Required to pass a drug and alcohol screening
• Required to pass a background check
